Grace & Paul’s Unforgettable Wedding at The Barn at Pengelly

At the start of 2024, we launched something incredibly close to our hearts: The Unsung Hero Award. It was our way of collaborating with suppliers to give back to someone who had faced life’s toughest challenges with strength, resilience, and gift someone who truly deserved a dream wedding.

The response was overwhelming. Stories of love, loss, and unwavering determination poured in from across the county. But one story touched us deeply: the story of Grace and Paul.

After 12 years together, they had never been able to afford a wedding. In 2020, Paul suffered a brain haemorrhage that left him unable to work. Since then, life has thrown them one challenge after another.

Grace is a devoted mum to four children. Her two eldest have complex needs — one is wheelchair-bound and fully reliant on adult care, and the second is autistic and lives with extreme anxiety. In 2022, while 38+6 weeks pregnant, Grace suffered a placental abruption. She lost her baby boy and nearly four litres of blood — a traumatic, life-threatening experience that became the lowest point of her life.

At the same time, she was battling the education system to find support for her children, who were out of school because their needs were no longer being met. After two long years of advocacy, both children were finally given places at a specialist school in September 2023.

Despite everything, Grace and Paul have faced life with love, loyalty, and incredible perseverance. It was an honour to tell them they had won our Unsung Hero Award.

Their wedding took place this week — and it was unforgettable.

With the Cornish sun beaming down, Grace and Paul exchanged vows in an outdoor ceremony at The Barn at Pengelly. There was laughter, love, and not a dry eye in sight. Grace got ready in our brand-new glam room, and the entire day flowed beautifully thanks to an incredible team of suppliers who donated their time and talents to make this dream day come true.

We’d like to give a huge thank you to:

  • Divine Dining – for the mouthwatering wedding breakfast
  • Wedding Day Dog Nanny – for taking wonderful care of their beloved dog
  • I Do Photos & Films – for capturing every emotional and joyful moment
  • Doms Discos – who kept the party going into the night
  • Charlotte Albert – who worked her makeup magic
  • Anna Ingram – for flawless bridal hair styling
  • West Cornwall Flowers – for stunning floral creations
  • Out of the Ordinary Hire – for providing the beautiful décor and finishing touches
  • And of course, The Barn at Pengelly – the place where it all came together

This day wasn’t just about tying the knot. It was a celebration of everything Grace and Paul have overcome, and a reminder of what weddings are truly about — love, hope, and the people who lift each other up through life’s hardest moments.

To everyone who entered our Unsung Hero campaign: your stories touched us deeply. While we could only offer one free wedding, we were honoured to give three of our runners-up 50% off venue hire to help them on their own special journey.

Grace and Paul reminded us all why we do what we do. This is why we opened our doors. And we’re beyond proud to have played a small part in giving them the day they’ve waited so long for.

You’ll always have a place in our hearts here at The Barn at Pengelly.

We look forward to launching the second edition next year!

Looking Back on an Extraordinary 2025 at Pengelly Weddings

As we step into 2026, we’re filled with gratitude, pride, and excitement as we reflect on an incredible year here at Pengelly Weddings. From incredible celebrations with our couples to exciting new additions to the estate, 2025 will be remembered as one of our most memorable yet. A Year Filled With Love This year we were honoured to host over 80 weddings, each one unique and full of personality, including our first New Years Eve wedding. It’s been a true privilege to be part of so many love stories and to witness couples create unforgettable memories with their nearest and dearest. We also welcomed a record number of Christmas parties, bringing festive cheer to The Barn and making this season one of our most magical yet. New Amenities & Beautiful Spaces In May, we were delighted to launch our brand-new Glam Room, the first of its kind in Cornwall. This beautiful space has already become a favourite part of our wedding days, offering a luxurious and relaxed area for bridal preparations and special moments before the main event. Behind the scenes, we also started work on our Kitchen Garden, where we’re growing fresh, local herbs and vegetables to complement our catering. This space will soon feature a pizza oven and giant feasting tables, perfect for relaxed day-after celebrations, we can’t wait to share more as this project evolves – see our CGI image below. To enhance the entrance to The Barn, we planted new silver birch trees along the driveway, creating an even more dramatic and beautiful entrance for our couples and guests. It’s a small but meaningful change that adds to the magic of arriving here on your wedding day. In-house Catering Preparation A major milestone this year was the preparation that went behind the launch of our in-house catering. We welcomed Head Chef Ian to lead this exciting chapter, bringing his creativity and passion for locally inspired cuisine to every wedding we host. Recognition for Our Team We are incredibly proud of what our team has achieved this year, and that was reflected in the awards we received across the wedding and tourism industry: Silver for Wedding Venue of the Year at the Cornwall Tourism Awards Barn/County Wedding Venue and overall Wedding Venue of the Year at the South West Wedding Awards Events Team of the Year for the South West at The Wedding Industry Awards (TWIA) We are thrilled to be representing Cornwall at the TWIA National Awards in the coming weeks and look forward to celebrating alongside the very best in the industry. As we look ahead to 2026, we’re filled with excitement for all that’s to come. From weddings and celebrations to evolving spaces and experiences, thank you to every couple, guest, partner, and team member who made 2025 so special. Here’s to another year of unforgettable moments at Pengelly Weddings. ✨ With love, from all of us at Pengelly Weddings

A Remarkable Week of Recognition for The Barn at Pengelly

Awards season has arrived, and what a whirlwind week it has been for The Barn at Pengelly. We’re still catching our breath after an incredible series of celebrations across Cornwall and the South West. Each event brought its own excitement, surprises, and unforgettable moments, and we are over the moon to share what we’ve achieved. A Silver Win at the Cornwall Tourism Awards Our week began beneath the stunning architecture of Truro Cathedral, where the Cornwall Tourism Awards took place. Surrounded by so many outstanding Cornish businesses, we were honoured to take home Silver for Wedding Venue of the Year. This recognition means so much to our team. To be acknowledged among the very best businesses in Cornwall is a huge achievement, and it reflects the passion and care that goes into every wedding we host. A Double Victory at the South West Wedding Awards Next stop: Plymouth, for the South West Wedding Awards, and what a night it was. Not only did we win Barn/County Wedding Venue, but to our absolute delight (and complete surprise!) we were announced as Wedding Venue of the Year across the entire South West. This final award is presented to the standout winner chosen from all venue categories, something we really didn’t expect. In fact, our wonderful Venue Manager, Lauren, had already slipped into her trainers ready to head home! Her dash back onto the stage added a moment of comedy to an already unforgettable night and perfectly captured the joy and shock we all felt. Celebrating in Bristol with The Wedding Industry Awards (TWIA) Our week concluded in Bristol, where we joined the TWIA Awards as finalists in two categories: Barn Wedding Venue and Events Team. TWIA holds a special place in the wedding industry because its results are based entirely on feedback from the couples we’ve supported, making it an especially meaningful accolade. We were thrilled to be announced as Events Team of the Year for the South West. This win sees us progress to the National TWIA Awards in January, where we will proudly represent the region on the national stage. To be recognised for the heart and hard work our team pours into every celebration is something we will never take for granted. A Testament to Our Amazing Team, and Our Wonderful Couples These awards are more than trophies; they reflect the dedication, professionalism, and genuine care shown by every member of our team. From early morning setup to late-night pack-downs, from planning calls to problem-solving on the day, our staff go above and beyond to make every wedding unforgettable. But none of this would be possible without the couples who choose The Barn at Pengelly to host their love story. Your thoughtful feedback, glowing testimonials, and trust in us fuel everything we do. Looking Ahead As our wedding season comes to an end for 2025, we are immensely proud of what we’ve achieved this year. This incredible week of recognition has energised us, inspired us, and reaffirmed why we love what we do. We can’t wait to head to the TWIA National Awards in January, and to continue creating unforgettable moments for every couple who walks through our doors. Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to many more magical memories at The Barn at Pengelly.
